Quick starts
Some days you just need to know that you can start work and keep going. Both Cards Against Procrastination AND Cards for Self Care have great tips to get you ready to work and keep the momentum going. My favourite quick starts include:
Find your Focus 7 – the classic Pomodoro technique – check out the timers than are great for stress free timing
Find your Focus 8 – is a really simple Quick Start. Its ‘Just do 5’ and it’s really flexible. If you’re struggling to decide what to focus on then pick anything. Set a timer for 5 minutes, or write a To Do list of 5 things, read or write for 5 minutes… the choice is up to you.
The Rule of 4 27 – a personal favourite for quick and easy reflection is the One Minute Paper. It’s 3 questions for you to ask yourself to help reflect and then focus on what to do next.
Unstuck 12 – somedays you are not in an optimal place to be working at your best. Which is normal, so practice good self compassion. Try using STOP to see what you need
- S – stop what you are doing
- T – take a break
- O – observe mood, actions and feelings
- P – only proceed when you are making positive changes
Energy 4 – ah yes, boost that energy! Gentle exercise in 5 – 10 minutes can really boost your energy and mood. A little light stretching in your chair, a walk to get some fresh air, even just some deep breathing can clear physical barries to productivity.
Keep procrastinating,
Jane
